Where We Gonna Go??

Every once in a while, something seemingly average ends up striking you in a really dope way that you can't explain. Much like Identical Variant did to me. This also happens plenty times in music. Granted, we all sometimes fall victim to the glitz and glamor of videos... but when music and visuals are done just right, it doesn't take much outside of being simple and to the point for the spark.

The right angle here... a quick shot there... a glimpse of an object... a spec of color.... words laid flawlessly over a stunning visual.

That's actually the feeling I got as I watched the video for "Where We Gonna Go" by Tabi Bonney feat. Lykke Li for the first time. Not only are the vocals from Lykke Li powerful in their own subtle way, Tabi didn't disappoint either. Throw in a beautiful, curvaceous woman, raw & simple camera shooting... and to me it wins. Beautiful video. Give it a look-see.

I know all my hip hop heads will love me for this one

The Blaksmith, of Cold Men Young, has been in the lab working on the amazingness known as Passalacqua (not sure how to pronounce it) but its dope. Its a collaborative effort between Mister, Blaksmith and the production done by Dr. B. Musically and creatively, this Ep is amazing, it has a smooth, soulful, jazz feel but its pure hip hop!! The production is amazing. The sound is definitely different but it can be appreciated. If you are a fan of music you will love it. Lyrically its on another level.

To call it great would be an understatement. This 6 track EP will have listener itching for more. Blak's and Mister's voices utilize the beats in such a melodic way and the chemistry is amazing. We can all appreciate classic, timeless music that people of all ages can relate to, though its only 6 tracks its something to be said when 6 tracks can be this powerful, its definitely worth a download. I can continue to analyze it, but that would take all day

It's that time folks & fellow IV heads... dopeness for your ears. I call this "Sample Saturday" because this track offers a sample of another dope song. Warner Brother's XtotheV lays some verses that a music fan can appreciate on this track titled, "Smallville". This Kansas rapper (yeah, I said Kansas) has been around for a good while and is still creating a nice little buzz for himself. This track is produced by Mr. J Cole and is pretty damn fly with a nice little sample of "To Forgive" by Smashing Pumpkins (a favorite of mine). I can rock to it. Hopefully you can too. Ride to it & tell me you don't feel it.

I figured I should take a little time out to introduce myself, since anyone that may be reading this blog, or who follows all the latest with iV, may not know exactly who I am. My name is Neo, and I was asked here by JP and Big O to help breathe some life and freshness back into this blog.

Okay, that was probably a little corny, and you'll probably get a lot of that with me around. You should also expect to see a lot of dope Asian stuff, dope artwork, dope people all with the Neo twist. I actually feel extremely flattered to be able to write alongside such a talented bunch of people. iV Angels Profile: Divania

Today's iV Angel is a new addition to the family: Divania "Vannie" Sykes. When she isn't matching our fly in front of the camera, the Flint, Mich. native is pushing toward a marketing degree at Texas Southern University. But if you're going to hold a conversation with Vannie, know what you're getting into - as the interview below shows, she has some weird tastes.

Birthplace & Current Stomping Grounds:

I was born in Flint, MI &I now live in Houston, TX.

Favorite iV shirt, or iV shirt that best describes your personality, and why? What appeals to you about Identical Variant's clothing and brand?

The shirt that best describes my personality is the black "I'm Dope Get Over It." Because just as it says im DOPE and it makes me feel so "bad @$$." Identical Variant is so different! It's not another clothing label that is this unique to me and the prices are so reasonable.

Lifetime goals?

Right now I attend Texas Southern University, pursuing my BBA in Marketing, which I plan on completing in 2.5-3 years. Then I plan on doing internships here and there, and then going to grad school at Harvard University or The University of Texas to pursue my masters in Business. I will be working in the entertainment industry as a marketing director.

TV show/movie you can't live without?

I can't live with out Law& Order: SVU, it's so amzing. I love that show. I can watch it over and over and over.

What makes you different?

I must be honest I am super weird. I try to do things without people noticing; there have been many times Randall has caught me with the camera doing weird things. I love eating peanut butter and grapes, so yummy, but everyone thinks I'm weird. I used to watch "Trading Spaces" all the time on TLC; nobody likes that, but I used to love it. I would get home from school and go right to watching that ALL day! Simple things make me happy and smile, what makes me different though is that standing on my head and talking to myself makes me super relaxed and happy. I can be supper mean, and I sometimes say things that shouldnt be said, but I am always 100% honest. If you ask me a question I'm going to be real with you!!

With iV, all the models have different personalities. I'm the hard core biker chick and I love it, because I'm the youngest and I act the toughest, but I love all my big "Angel" sisters. I can't explain why I act this way, its just me!! Ms. Perfectly Imperfect.

I am going to school for marketing. I plan to go into sports marketing. I prefer football. Eventually, I'll open my own marketing/advertising firm.

TV show/movie you can't live without?

I can't live without "Paid in Full!" Next to "Love and Basketball," it is the best movie ever. Paid In Full is the realest movie ever, it's on that G shit. And Sanaa Lathan is one of my favorite actresses. I always wanted a boyfriend that lived next door so we could sneak in each others' windows.

What makes you different?

Welllllll.... I have freckles! I'm extremely goofy because my mom is still goofy at her old age;we always goof around and make jokes. I love fried okra! A lot!

Plus, I'm always watching ESPN. A lot of girls just cant stand it, but I can watch it all day. I love sports because I grew up on them. I have a lot of brothers and cousins, so I was always at a sporting event. I like football the most because its a contact sport, and I like seeing people get their asses whupped [laughs].

I am a Hello Kitty fanatic, too. I think I will love Hello Kitty till the day i die!

Yes it's true, iV has finally released the first set of polos... Men's and women's as a matter of fact. These particular polos are made of premium pima cotton and embroidered with fluorescent polyester thread. The embroidered logo is about 3 inches or so in size. The women's polos are made to fit a womanly shape with more buttons so the collar opens up more. These babies run $45 a pop (which is a lot cheaper than other QUALITY polos these days).

When Interscope Records emcee Wale came to Tennesee to perform in concert, Identical Variant's rep in the state, Terrance Robinson, was wearing the "Jockin My Fresh" tee. Wale was so impressed with the shirt that Terrance gave him both that shirt and the "I Come In Piece" tee. Apparently, Wale was feeling the other tee as well - he wore it on stage that night! Pictures below.

What's good, people? Smack reporting here. You might recognize me from such attire as the "Chibi Ninja Girl" tanktops and the lettering on the "I Come in Piece" shirts, and also as the main star of Who's Your Caddy 2: Electric Caddy Boogaloo (coming soon to a Hollywood Video near you).

Thanks to you all, I.V. has started off an incredible run for 2008. From the clothes to release parties, y'all helped us shine. So with that said, there definitely be any slacking once 2009 hits. So here's a sneak peek at the start of the Spring collection, starting off with the new girl tanktop, "Drop Bombs," another collabo between me and Randall (he had font duty this time lol).

Also keep a look out for that freshly baked I.V. mixtape still in the works just for y'all. You'll learn more about that on another occasion though.

Identical Variant Year-End Photo Shoot

Identical Variant is done for 2008, but with all of your help, we had a hell of a summer run. We've released several new shirts, including our first run of hoodies; we launched a new web site; with the Jockin' My Fresh tee with LivLux magazine, we netted our first collaborative piece; we gained new members of the team with the latest IV Angel Sunshine Marie (pictured above), and new Marketing Assistant William E. Ketchum III (who's writing this blog); and our product is circulating all over the nation. We're excited about the new year.

Company Co-Owner/Head Designer Randall Pointer got a new camera for Christmas, and what better way to end the year than with a photoshoot to chronicle the summer's best designs and introduce Sunshine? We hope you have as much fun enjoying the photos as we did at the shoot. Check out more of the photos below, and we'll see you in '09!
